History

Schäfers has been active on the market as a manufacturer of transparent packaging since 1960. During this time, we have grown to become one of the market leaders in this special segment. Our state-of-the-art machinery gives us all the technical possibilities to produce individual and creative packaging from various plastics in the Lower Rhine region.


Our aim is a continuous development. If "better" is possible, "good" is not good enough; our credo, to which our employees have committed to. As a future-oriented family business, values such as sustainability, long-term thinking and responsibility are very important to us. This also includes meeting our responsibility for the environment through resource-saving production processes.

 

1960    Foundation of the company Sichtverpackungen Inh. Armin Schäfers by the spouses Armin Wolfgang Schäfers in Kempen - St. Hubert with the production and  the distribution of transparent round tubes for the company De Beukelaer, Kempen.

1965    Expansion of the manufacturing programme with transparent lids and bottoms.

1967    Relocation to Kempen into larger production rooms.

1969    Expansion of the manufacturing programme with thermoformed parts.

1971    Investment in semi-automatic and fully automatic machines to expand capacity.

1975    Expansion of the manufacturing programme with blister packaging and assembly.

1976    Acquisition of industrial land and new construction of office and production premises in Straelen.

1977   Relocation to the Straelen site

1980    Expansion of the production programme with transparent folding boxes. Purchase of an automatic die-cutting machine and a gluing machine from the company BOBST.

1982    Investment in print finishing by establishing foil screen printing. Purchase of a fully automatic flatbed screen printing machine.

1990    Company handover to the son Wolfgang Armin Schäfers.

1991    Introduction of IT with network and development of software. Acquisition of a CAD system for computer-aided development of packaging samples.

1992    "Everything from one source" with the additional service of customer-oriented purchasing as well as warehousing and logistics. Establishment of quality control in accordance with ISO 9001.

1993     Change of name from Sichtverpackungen A. Schäfers to Wolfgang Schäfers Sicht & Wellopack.

1998    Development of sales activities in England

1999    Planning and realisation of 2 production and storage halls. Foundation of the company Schäfers Sicht & Blisterpack GmbH & Co. KG

2001     Move into the new building and reorganisation of production

2003    Investment in one of the most modern, fully automatic high-performance gluing machines with integrated packaging and exchangeable gluing systems. Expansion of sales activities to Austria and France.

2004    Investment in a new IT system with targeted production and cost control, as well as a sample plotter of the latest generation plus the latest CAD software for 3D presentation via the internet. Expansion of the gluing line for the production of special packaging

2005    Purchase of an flatbed die cutter of the company IBERICA with integrated heating and stripping station.

2008    Investment in a UV screen printing machine from SPS to optimise foil finishing. Investment in a fully automatic folding box gluing machine from VEGA. Max. open size 80 x 112 cm. Pre-folding of all 4 creases to improved erection of the clear folding boxes.

2009    Foundation of Office South with the appointment of a sales representative for southern Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

2010    Purchase of a neighbouring plot of land with production / storage hall. Increase of the total property capacity to 15.000 sqm and production / storage halls to 4.000 sqm. Investment in a fully automatic high-speed cutting system from WOHLENBERG with programmable cut settings and cut optimisation. Investment in a new transparent round tube line from cutting by ultrasonic welding to the production of highly refined round and oval tubes.

2013    Acquisition of a new CAD software to display the print layout and video presentation via the web portal to the customer. Investment in two tin-bottom sealing machines of the company LANICO for the production of tin bottoms of transparent round tubes. Start of production of cardboard round tubes and combination tubes with foil and cardboard.

2014    Investment in a new IT management system with integrated production planning via control console and extended controlling functions.

2015    Investment and extension of the round tubes line by a fully automatic module from OVAL in self-construction.
